Created this recipe from heavily modifying my moms family recipe which must have been written incorrectly because its not as good as i remember it being as a child.
Ingredients
- 2 prepared pie crusts
- 5 granny smith
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3 Tbsp flour
- 4 Tbsp butter
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
How to make it
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
- 2. Place pealed, cored and sliced apple chunks in a large mixing bowl. In a smaller bowl combine sugars, cinnamon and flour. Pour dry mixture over apples, top with soft or melted butter and lemon juice. Mix well.
- 3. (optional) Line pie pan with first pasty shell. Then line with aluminum foil and press it down into the dough. Fill the aluminum foil with dried rice/beans or spare change and bake it for ~10-12 minutes. This will ensure that your bottom crust get cooked fully.
- 4. Pour apple mixture into pastry-lined pan. You may have a cup or so more filling then necessary. Place second pastry on top. Seal edges and cut steam vents in top crust.
- 5. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, until crust is golden brown. Remove from oven and cool 1 – 2 hours.
