My moms pie crust recipe. I’ve never attempted it myself but when I decided it’s time to stop buying the pre-made crust from the store, i’ll give it a shot.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose-flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1/3 cup butter
- 6-8 Tbsp ice water
How to make it
- Mix softened butter and shortening thoroughly in medium bowl. Add flour and salt on top (do not mix). Put bowl in freezer for 20 minutes.
- Prepare ice water (ice in cup).
- Using pastry cutter or two knives, cut shortening and flour together until it resembles course crumbs.
- Quickly mix in 6 Tbs ice water with a spoon; add additional 1-2 Tbs if needed to form a smooth ball.
- Divide dough into two portions; put one in the refrigerator. Roll out the other between sheets of clear plastic wrap. Peel wrap away, dust with flour, replace wrap and flip over once or twice until size is correct for pie pan. Line pan, fill, repeat with second portion of dough.
