Best Sloppy-Joe recipe I’ve had. From what I remember this was a recipe that my dad brought home from his time working at the high-school cafeteria.
We always used Heinz ketchup when I was a kid. But i don’t generally keep large quantities of ketchup on hand, so these days I just make my own.
Ingredients
- 1 large white onion diced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 6oz can of tomato paste
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 2 Tbsp molasses
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1½ tsp dry mustard
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire
How to make it
- Brown ground beef in large skillet and add onions. Cook until onions soften, 2-3 minutes.
- Add tomato paste, corn syrup, vinegar and water. Stir until well combined.
- Mix in all remaining ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Serve on your preferred hamburger bun and eat.
