Sloppy Joes

Best Sloppy-Joe recipe I’ve had. From what I remember this was a recipe that my dad brought home from his time working at the high-school cafeteria.

We always used Heinz ketchup when I was a kid. But i don’t generally keep large quantities of ketchup on hand, so these days I just make my own.

Ingredients

  • 1 large white onion diced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 6oz can of tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 Tbsp molasses
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1½ tsp dry mustard
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire

How to make it

  1. Brown ground beef in large skillet and add onions. Cook until onions soften, 2-3 minutes.
  2.  Add tomato paste, corn syrup, vinegar and water. Stir until well combined.
  3. Mix in all remaining ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Serve on your preferred hamburger bun and eat.
