Baked Ziti

This recipe was a favorite of the Reddit family. The great-grandmother of Reddit, who has zero Italian ancestry, made this up one night after several stiff drinks. Somehow it blew up on the inter-webs. It’s easy and tasty comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 1 – 16oz box Ziti noodles
  • 1lb. ground beef or italian sausage.
  • 15oz Ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 c. grated Parmesan
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg
  • 2 jars (1lb, 10oz each) pasta sauce. (Ragu – Parmesan Romano is a favorite)
  • 8 oz. mozzarella

Directions

  1. Cook noodles al dente, drain and set aside. Brown meat in a large pan and drain excess fat. Add Italian seasoning.
  2. In a large bowl, combine cooked noodles with Ricotta, Parmesan, egg, and salt/pepper to taste. Add the meat and 1 jar of sauce, mix to combine
  3. Add half the mixture to 9×13 ungreased casserole pan. Sprinkle with half the mozzarella cheese and add the remaining mixture on top of the cheese.
  4. Spread second jar on top and sprinkle with remaining mozzarella.
  5. Bake uncovered at 350F for 25 minutes.

Notes

  • If you are using pre-shredded mozzarella, just follow the instructions as they’re written. If you have a block however, you could chop it into 3/4″ cubes and mix those in with noodle mixture when you add the meat.
