This recipe was a favorite of the Reddit family. The great-grandmother of Reddit, who has zero Italian ancestry, made this up one night after several stiff drinks. Somehow it blew up on the inter-webs. It’s easy and tasty comfort food.
Ingredients
- 1 – 16oz box Ziti noodles
- 1lb. ground beef or italian sausage.
- 15oz Ricotta cheese
- 1/2 c. grated Parmesan
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 egg
- 2 jars (1lb, 10oz each) pasta sauce. (Ragu – Parmesan Romano is a favorite)
- 8 oz. mozzarella
Directions
- Cook noodles al dente, drain and set aside. Brown meat in a large pan and drain excess fat. Add Italian seasoning.
- In a large bowl, combine cooked noodles with Ricotta, Parmesan, egg, and salt/pepper to taste. Add the meat and 1 jar of sauce, mix to combine
- Add half the mixture to 9×13 ungreased casserole pan. Sprinkle with half the mozzarella cheese and add the remaining mixture on top of the cheese.
- Spread second jar on top and sprinkle with remaining mozzarella.
- Bake uncovered at 350F for 25 minutes.
Notes
- If you are using pre-shredded mozzarella, just follow the instructions as they’re written. If you have a block however, you could chop it into 3/4″ cubes and mix those in with noodle mixture when you add the meat.
